โ€œOur communityโ€™s history is a living story, and preserving it is both a responsibility and an opportunity,โ€ said Peter Johnson, President of the Palm Coast Historical Society. โ€œWe are focused on building upon recent progressโ€”particularly the preservation of Fire Station 22โ€”while expanding events, outreach, and our speaker series. We also look forward to strengthening connections with local schools so that history remains accessible, relevant, and engaging for future generations.โ€

In the plans are also updating the front entrance of the museum with native plants from The Garden Club at Palm Coast members in April 2026.

Preserving Palm Coastโ€™s Past

The mission of the Palm Coast Historical Society is the collection, preservation, and dissemination of materials related to the City of Palm Coast and the people who have shaped its history.

Founded in 2000 during the cityโ€™s early years, the Society was formed with Margaret Davies and Art Dycke appointed as Co-Historians by Palm Coastโ€™s first City Council. From the outset, their goals were clear: begin documenting Palm Coastโ€™s history, establish sustainable funding, and find a permanent home for the growing collection.

Over the following two decades, those founding goals remained at the heart of the organization. A major milestone was achieved with the establishment of a permanent home at Holland Park. During this period, Art Dycke continued to shape the Societyโ€™s direction, later serving as Co-Historian alongside Elaine Studnicki.

Now, more than twenty-five years after its formation, the Palm Coast Historical Society looks to the futureโ€”committed to protecting local landmarks, expanding educational programming, and ensuring that Palm Coastโ€™s history is preserved and shared with generations to come as the city continues to grow and evolve.
