Harris Teeter Eyes Former Players Club Site for New Palm Coast Grocery Store
A familiar piece of Palm Coast history may soon become home to a new grocery shopping destination.
Harris Teeter, the supermarket chain owned by Kroger, is reportedly under contract to purchase the former Players Club property near European Village in Palm Coast.
The approximately 13.4-acre property, located near the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway and Palm Harbor Parkway, has remained largely unused since the former tennis facility closed in 2006.
If the purchase and development plans move forward, the property could become a new commercial shopping destination serving Palm Coast residents and visitors.
What's Being Proposed?
According to information reported on November 6, 2026, the proposed development would encompass approximately 81,000 square feet of commercial space.
- 65,000-square-foot Harris Teeter supermarket
- 10-pump fuel station
- 6,000-square-foot organic café operated by a separate business
- Expanded parking and site improvements
The proposed supermarket would introduce another major grocery competitor to the Palm Coast market while bringing additional shopping options to residents in the Palm Harbor area and surrounding neighborhoods.
A Historic Palm Coast Property
Longtime Palm Coast residents will remember the Players Club as one of the city's most recognizable recreational landmarks.
Opened in 1986, the tennis facility played an important role in Palm Coast's early development as a destination for recreational and competitive tennis.
The property once featured tennis courts, a swimming pool, clubhouse facilities, and landscaped grounds surrounded by mature trees.
Following its closure in 2006, the facility deteriorated, and its remaining buildings were demolished in 2016.
In its 2012 Parkway East Master Plan, the City of Palm Coast specifically identified the former tennis club property as a potential redevelopment site.
Now, approximately two decades after the Players Club closed, the property may finally be approaching a new chapter.
Traffic and Environmental Considerations
While a new grocery store could offer additional shopping convenience, the proposed development also raises questions about traffic and preservation of the property's mature trees.
A traffic analysis prepared by engineering firm Kimley-Horn reportedly estimates approximately 4,800 daily vehicle trips associated with the proposed commercial development.
Residents who regularly travel along Palm Coast Parkway and Palm Harbor Parkway will likely be interested in how the project addresses traffic flow, parking access, and intersection conditions.
The property also contains numerous mature oak trees that have been part of the Palm Coast landscape for decades.
How the final development design accommodates those trees could become an important consideration during the city's review process.
Is Harris Teeter Officially Coming to Palm Coast?
Not yet. The proposed transaction and development remain in preliminary stages.
As of November 7, 2026:
- The property purchase has been reported but has not been confirmed as completed.
- A formal site plan has not yet been submitted for approval.
- No construction starting date has been announced.
- No projected Palm Coast store opening date has been announced.
The property has an existing commercial zoning designation. A formal development proposal would still need to proceed through the City of Palm Coast's applicable site-plan review and approval process.
Harris Teeter Is Expanding in Florida
Harris Teeter is a subsidiary of The Kroger Co., operating more than 250 grocery stores across the southeastern and mid-Atlantic United States.
The company's existing Florida supermarket is located in Fernandina Beach.
In November 2025, Harris Teeter officially announced plans for additional stores, including a Jacksonville location.
The company is known for its grocery departments, fresh produce, meats, seafood, bakery selections, prepared foods, and customer loyalty programs.
A Palm Coast store would represent another expansion of the Harris Teeter name into Florida's grocery market.
What Happens Next?
The next major steps would involve completion of the property transaction, submission of the proposed development plans, and review by the City of Palm Coast.
Residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the project's actual design and potential neighborhood impacts as additional development information becomes publicly available.
For now, the possibility of a Harris Teeter supermarket at the former Players Club property represents a noteworthy potential change to one of Palm Coast's longstanding vacant commercial locations.
Palm Coast Local will continue following the development and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
