Palm Coast Local Fifth Business Insider Exclusive Highlights The Journey Of A Young Boy Moving To Palm Coast and How He Turned Life’s Challenges Into A Thriving Career in Hospitality.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Anthoney Clement moved with his family to Jacksonville, Florida where he grew up until at just 5 years old, they relocated to Ponte Vedra, Florida. A few years later, he and his family settled in Palm Coast, Florida a small, close-knit community that played a pivotal role in shaping his young life.
Enrolling at Indian Trails Middle School, Anthoney met Vicki, a kind woman who helped him enroll and introduced him to the Police Athletic League aka: P.A.L. This after-school program became a haven for young Anthoney, providing structure, connections, and an outlet for his love of football.
'I was so excited to join P.A.L.,' Anthoney shares. 'It gave me the chance to make new friends while reinventing myself from a bench player to a star player with a strong presence as a newcomer.
During his high school years at Matanzas High School (MHS), Anthoney made history as the school’s first-ever MHS Pirates' Starting Quarterback. Beyond football, he explored other activities and sports, including soccer, lacrosse, and JROTC.
"Coach Benvenuto made soccer fun for me because he allowed me to develop my natural talent and excel," Anthoney recalls, "While in JROTC, I found discipline and a deeper understanding of myself."
"Yeah, Sergeant Caraballo, (then, Army JROTC instructor at Matanzas High School) would call me out when I slacked off," he chuckled at the memory. "All he had to say was, 'Anthoney, I know you can do better than that.' Just those stern words would get me back in line—I knew he was right."
But sports and leadership programs weren’t the only things that shaped Anthoney’s high school experience. He also discovered a passion for helping others through the school’s Special Needs Program. Volunteering as a Teacher’s Assistant during both his junior and senior years, Anthoney formed meaningful connections with students in the program, assisting them with classroom computer skills, math, and after-school activities.
"It became something I looked forward to—not just volunteering, but truly being there for them," Anthoney shares.
His commitment extended beyond the classroom. After school, he dedicated additional hours to the Special Olympics program, serving as a referee and mentor. The impact was mutual—not only did Anthoney develop a deep bond with the students and participants, but they also formed a special connection with him.
Their appreciation and love for Anthoney was evident when, as a heartfelt gesture, the students and adults in the program pooled together $40 cash and bought him a graduation card—a deeply meaningful token of their gratitude and admiration for Anthoney.
"It was one of the most touching moments of my life," Anthoney reflects, "Knowing I made a difference in their lives still means the world to me."
After graduating with honors in 2009 as part of the first full graduating class of Matanzas High School, like many young graduates, he found himself at a crossroads.
"I didn’t know what I wanted to do after high school," Anthoney admits. "I just knew whatever it was, I had to be all in."
Determined to make a difference, Anthoney enrolled in nursing school in Jacksonville and earned his LPN. (Licensed Practical Nurse) . While studying, he took a job at the prestigious Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in downtown Jacksonville. Initially, it was just a way to make ends meet, but it quickly became an unexpected passion.
"Ruth’s Chris wasn’t just a restaurant—it was an institution," Anthoney explains. "Working there taught me about high standards and the art of creating unforgettable experiences for guests."
Anthoney quickly moved up the ranks, advancing from a second- and third-year server to Banquet Captain, where he honed his leadership skills and deepened his appreciation for the hospitality industry.
After graduating from nursing school, Anthoney once again found himself at a crossroads. Despite his accomplishments in healthcare, he felt a strong pull back to the energy and camaraderie of the restaurant industry. Realizing where his true passion lay, he made the bold decision to pivot from nursing to hospitality, fully committing to the career that genuinely made him happy.
Transitioning from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse to Metro Diner as a Front-of-House Supervisor in Jax gave Anthoney the opportunity to expand his skill set, gaining firsthand experience in restaurant operations beyond serving and banquets. At Metro Diner, he learned the intricacies of guest relations, staff management, and the fast-paced nature of casual dining, further solidifying his passion for the industry.
Eager to continue growing, Anthoney embraced his next opportunity—returning to his steakhouse roots at Texas Roadhouse in Orange Park, Florida. The transition allowed him to apply his fine-dining experience in a high-energy, customer-driven environment while refining his leadership skills in a bustling, family-oriented setting.
But life wasn’t without its challenges. A personal setback brought Anthoney back to Palm Coast, where he found comfort in the familiar and transferred to the Palm Coast Texas Roadhouse. Though it felt like a step back at first, it ultimately became a turning point in his journey.
Determined to rebuild, Anthoney quickly regained his footing, excelling in his role and rediscovering his passion for the hospitality industry. With his relentless work ethic and natural leadership skills, he climbed the ranks, earning recognition as a Front-of-House Key Manager. In this role, he played a pivotal part in training staff, enhancing guest experiences, and maintaining the high-energy atmosphere that makes Texas Roadhouse a community favorite.
His dedication didn’t go unnoticed. Anthoney’s commitment to excellence earned him the coveted 'Secret Shopper' award, a prestigious recognition given to employees who achieve a flawless performance during an anonymous, company-paid review. This milestone validated his skills and reinforced his belief that he was on the right path.
It was a frequent patron who played a pivotal role in Anthoney’s next career move. After observing his exceptional work ethic and the effortless way he connected with both staff and guests, the patron approached him with a suggestion that would change his path.
"You would be a great addition to Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa," he encouraged Anthoney to submit his resume.
Anthoney took the advice to heart. Inspired by the opportunity, he applied without hesitation. "I figured, why not? If I don't try. I'll never know." he recalled with a knowing smile
Just one week later, he was invited for an interview, and within two weeks, he was officially offered a position. His new role in the Golf Food & Beverage program became yet another opportunity to refine his skills and expand his expertise in hospitality.
Determined to excel, Anthoney immersed himself in the program, mastering operations seamlessly. His hard work and dedication didn’t go unnoticed there either, his performance review was so impressive that he was immediately promoted to an entry-level management position at The Atlantic Grille Oceanfront Restaurant. In addition to this new role, he continued overseeing the Golf Cart Food & Beverage service, proving his ability to balance multiple responsibilities with ease.
Today, Anthoney has continued to grow and excel in his career, taking on even greater responsibilities. His role now encompasses overseeing daily operations, managing employee scheduling, and serving as the Inventory Manager for multiple outlets, including Hammock House, Atlantic Grille, The Conservatory, and Beach Brew—all while continuing to lead the Food & Beverage Golf Cart Program he initially began with. His ability to adapt, lead, and ensure seamless operations across various locations showcases his dedication and expertise in the hospitality industry.
Beyond his professional success, Anthoney has also built a life filled with love and purpose. While working at the Palm Coast Texas Roadhouse, he met his fiancée, Sabrina Crossman, who shares his passion for hospitality. Sabrina has forged her own impressive path, now serving as a Manager at the newly opened Texas Roadhouse in St. Augustine. Together, they are making their mark on the hospitality industry across Palm Coast, bringing their expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence in every role they take on.
He’s also put down roots in Palm Coast, purchasing a home with Sabrina. Alongside their two dogs, Milo and Brody, they spend their free time exploring farmers’ markets, discovering local gems, and embracing everything Palm Coast and Florida have to offer. Visiting Holland Park with Milo and Brody, Anthoney also spends his downtime playing basketball there with new friends and strangers alike who show up to play, enjoying the sense of community and connection that has always been a driving force in his life.
"Every step of my journey—even the tough ones—has brought me to where I’m supposed to be," Anthoney reflects. "I’ve learned that success isn’t about following a straight path. It’s about embracing the twists and turns and finding what truly makes you fulfilled in life."
Anthoney Clement’s journey is more than just a career story—it’s a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of perseverance. Through every challenge, he has turned setbacks into stepping stones, proving that with determination and heart, it’s possible to turn dreams into reality—no matter how many times you have to start over.
