Incumbent board member cites district progress, fiscal stability, and continued focus on parents and academics.

Christy Chong, an incumbent member of the Flagler County School Board and the board’s current chair, has announced her candidacy for re-election to represent District 4 in the 2026 election.

Chong, who has served on the school board for the past three years, says her decision to seek another term is rooted in continuing what she describes as steady progress within the district. “It has been my honor to serve our community,” Chong said. “I am asking voters to re-elect me so we can continue building on our momentum and keep Flagler Schools the best choice for families.”

A board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Chong brings a healthcare background to education policy, offering what she describes as a frontline perspective when evaluating decisions that impact children and families. She is also a mother of children who have attended Flagler County schools for more than a decade and expects them to graduate from the district, a personal connection she says keeps her closely invested in student outcomes.

During her tenure on the school board, Chong has pointed to fiscal management as a key priority. The district ended the 2024–2025 fiscal year with a general fund balance exceeding $11 million, which she cites as an indicator of financial stability and long-term planning.

Academic performance has also shown reported gains in recent assessment cycles. According to district data referenced in her announcement, many schools currently hold A and B ratings, and the 2024–2025 assessment results reflected district-wide improvements, including gains of three percentage points in both English Language Arts and math. Several individual schools posted double-digit increases in overall school grades.

Chong has emphasized parental rights and maintaining a focus on academics. “Our students should be taught how to think, not what to think,” she said. “I have worked to maintain neutral, focused learning environments that empower parents and support real academic growth.”

Looking ahead, Chong says her goal is to continue serving District 4 while sustaining the district’s current direction. “Let’s keep moving Flagler Forward,” she said. “I look forward to serving our community for the next four years and ensuring every child receives an excellent, values-aligned education.”
